Difficulty Settings: Change the Lane That Actually Blocks You
Resynced lets you set Combat, Stealth, Naval, and Activities difficulty independently, each with Forgiving, Intended, or Hard options. Keep the other three lanes fixed when one system blocks progress. If Edward loses a guard fight, change Combat; if a Jackdaw encounter ends before you can read it, change Naval. A display or HUD problem is a separate adjustment, not proof that the difficulty is wrong.
Route decision
Failure → owner → one change → retest
Write down all four current settings, name the first failure in one repeatable encounter, and change only its owning lane for the next attempt.
The same mission, naval opening, stealth crossing, or activity completes with one known setting change, and the preferred challenge can be restored afterward.
Changing every slider after one failure removes the evidence of what helped and can make a stealth or naval route unexpectedly easy or hard later.

Failure → owner → one change → retest
The four lanes are independent. Use the first failed action to find the lane, then compare the same short route.
- RecordNote the exact enemy and attack that ended the attempt.
- AdjustMove Combat one step while keeping Stealth, Naval, and Activities fixed.
- RepeatUse the same checkpoint and confirm whether the same attack remains the blocker.
Decision table
Choose from the situation in front of you
| Situation | Decision | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A guard fight repeatedly ends at the same attack | Test Combat one step lower | Leave Stealth and Naval untouched so the next fight isolates the combat pressure. |
| Detection ends a quiet route before the objective | Test Stealth one step lower | The blocker is sightline and alert response, not Edward's ship or sword damage. |
| The Jackdaw sinks before the first planned exchange | Test Naval one step lower | Keep the same ship build to learn whether challenge or preparation is the actual wall. |
| A side activity blocks completion but story routes work | Test Activities only | A separate activity lane avoids weakening a campaign fight that already feels right. |
| The objective is hard to read rather than hard to execute | Restore helpful HUD feedback | Missing information should be fixed before changing challenge. |
How to use it
Keep a four-lane settings note
Record Combat / Stealth / Naval / Activities as a four-part string and attach it to the encounter name. After a successful test, decide whether you want to keep the easier lane or return it to Intended or Hard; do not silently carry a test setting into a different route.
Recovery path
If changing difficulty did not help
Return the lane to its original setting. Check whether the real blocker is missing HUD information, a mission condition, a ship upgrade, or a control input. Change that one variable and rerun the same short section before lowering another difficulty lane.

Common Questions
Can I change Naval difficulty without changing Stealth?
Yes. Ubisoft lists Combat, Stealth, Naval, and Activities as independent lanes. Note the original value so you can restore it after the test.
Should I lower every difficulty setting after one failed memory?
No. Identify whether the first failure belongs to combat, detection, a ship, or an activity, then change only that lane for a comparable retry.
What if the screen is confusing but the encounter is manageable?
Try a clearer HUD preset or restore a specific HUD element first. Information visibility and challenge level are separate choices.
