Naval Wanted Level: End the Hunt Before the Next Voyage

Fighting repeatedly raises Edward's naval Wanted Level and brings Pirate Hunters, with stronger ships at higher pressure. Lower notoriety by boarding an enemy or merchant ship and choosing that post-boarding reward, or reach port and bribe an Officer. If the Jackdaw cannot survive another deck fight, a port route is the safer answer than trying to earn one more boarding reward.

Route decision

Pressure → exit → reduction → resume

Safe first move

Read the wanted bar and Jackdaw hull, mark the nearest safe port, and decide whether a controlled boarding is safer than sailing directly to an Officer.

Finish line

The wanted pressure visibly falls in the current save and the Jackdaw can travel the planned route without the same hunters immediately forcing another fight.

Risk to avoid

Trying to outrun an escalating wanted bar without a clear port, repair, or boarding decision can turn one profitable encounter into a chain of costly battles.

The wanted bar is a route constraint. Clear it before combining a treasure trip, fort approach, or Fleet capture with another open-sea fight.

Wanted-level reset card

Separate pursuit reduction from ship recovery

A lower Wanted bar and a ready Jackdaw are two different outcomes. Use the port or boarding option that fits the ship's current survival margin, then verify both before resuming a long voyage.

  1. Pressure

Read the wanted bar and hull

Record the current pursuit state, hull, crew readiness, and whether a safe disabled target or reachable port is available.

Proof: The next move is based on this save's actual danger, not a guessed threshold or reset timer.

  2. Choose

    Compare the two reduction routes

Use a controlled boarding only when the target is isolated and the Jackdaw can survive the deck phase; otherwise plot to a port Officer.

Proof: You can state why the chosen route costs less risk than the alternative.

  3. Port stop

Keep Officer and Harbourmaster jobs separate

Confirm the Officer's wanted reduction first; visit the Harbourmaster separately if hull, ammunition, or cargo needs attention.

Proof: The wanted bar and ship inventory/repair state have each been checked after their own interaction.

  4. Resume

Test before restarting the long route

Check that pressure has fallen in the save and set the shortest necessary next leg before returning to a treasure trip, fort, or contract.

Proof: The next voyage starts with the intended pursuit state and enough ship resources for its first contact.

Stop ruleDo not repeat a risky boarding just because hunters returned; first confirm that the prior post-battle choice or Officer interaction actually reduced the current save's Wanted pressure.

How to use it

Keep the wanted reset in the voyage plan

Before a long treasure or fort leg, note the current wanted bar, nearest port, hull and crew state, and whether an isolated prize is available. The route that removes pursuit with the least risk is better than the route that offers one more cargo roll.

Recovery path

If the chase does not end

Check whether you selected the notoriety outcome after boarding or completed the bribe with the Officer; those are distinct from loot and restock. If the bar remains high, return to a safe port and confirm the current save before repeating another exposed boarding attempt.

Common Questions

Can I lose Pirate Hunters simply by sailing away?

Speed can create space, but Ubisoft describes the hunters continuing to pursue while the wanted pressure remains. Choose a boarding reduction or an Officer bribe for a deliberate reset.

Should I board every ship to reduce wanted level?

No. Board only when the target is isolated and the Jackdaw and crew can survive the deck phase; a port bribe is safer when the ship is depleted.

Does bribing an Officer also repair the Jackdaw?

Treat those as separate port actions. Confirm the wanted bar with the Officer, then use a Harbourmaster if the ship needs restock or repairs.
